Gamification is no longer just another buzzword, it has now turned into a formidable design methodology. It’s a great tool to have in a designer’s toolkit.
The evolution of gamification from an idea to a process, to a design methodology, has taken a lot of time and over a period, it has proven repeatedly that gamification is not just something that people are unnaturally hyped about. In 2010, the idea probably stemmed from the thought that humans are “hard-wired” to enjoy games and have a natural tendency to interact more deeply in activities that are framed in a game construct.
Many people/businesses still use the ideas from gamification of 2011 – 2012 to solve the problems that exist in 2019. It’s not that they are wrong or there was no truth in the gamification of 2011 – 2012. It’s just that gamification is so much more than that today, the way we see it, it’s a bit unfair on this beautiful design methodology. As gamification evolves, we as people & as business’ need to evolve with it.
To express what gamification means to us in 2019, we decided to publish an OP-Infographic Gamification 101 (Opinion, in case you were wondering what OP stood for) which touches on the very basics of what gamification as a design methodology means to us, to get the conversation started. Gaming has seeped into our society & our culture, won’t this have any impact on the way we perceive gamification, game-based solutions, game thinking, human-focused design, or whatever you want to call it. Won’t it have any impact on the way we design for it?
We hope you enjoy the Gamification 101 OP-Infographic below & we hope that it helps you at whatever point you are in your gamification journey.
