A Position Paper on Compliance Training

Written by

Compliance is regularly viewed as the bane of the learning & development (L&D) industry. Compliance training courses are required, but not valued. They’re not driven by a performance need, but instead by a legal requirement, and the associated need to avoid litigation.

A continual battle for L&D, compliance training courses are obligatory, yet no one cares but the lawyers. Also, they’re typically not measured in any meaningful way. Yet, they must be accomplished. To top it all, employees hate them. As a consequence, they are resourced at a minimum, creating experiences that are not compelling for learners, nor effective for organizations. What’s an organization to do?

We believe that compliance courses don’t have to be uninteresting or ineffective. What matters is changing the focus. Our new position paper on Compliance Training, authored by our Chief Learning Strategist – Clark Quinn, puts things into a different perspective and suggests how you can take compliance training from obligatory to useful. In the paper, we start with expanding on what exactly is compliance training and why is it important. Next, we move on to identify problems with how compliance training is designed and delivered, and then guide you to a better way of doing it, so that your compliance training works better.
