In today’s world, we are surrounded by data, and the ability to analyze and make sense of it is becoming increasingly important. In the field of learning experience design, evaluation is a crucial aspect that often goes overlooked. In our new position paper on Evaluation authored by our Chief Learning Strategist – Clark Quinn we discuss the importance of evaluating learning designs and the difficulties that come with it. Evaluation is essential to ensure that the design meets its intended purpose, and it is the only way to measure the value of the investment made in learning. However, evaluation is often done superficially, prematurely, or not at all. In this paper, we explain why evaluation is important, why it is problematic, and how we can approach it.
The position paper emphasizes the importance of evaluating learning designs and measuring the return on investment (ROI) of learning. We highlight the problems associated with evaluation, such as superficial evaluation, premature evaluation, and the fact that meaningful evaluation requires going beyond the boundaries of the L&D department. The Position paper proposes a flexible evaluation process that starts with appropriate analysis and is driven by the identification of skills or knowledge gaps. The position paper is an excellent resource for anyone interested in designing effective learning experiences and is looking for ways to evaluate their effectiveness. It is important to read the paper to learn about the different methods of evaluation and how to use them effectively to achieve a positive return on investment. We highly recommend reading this position paper by Clark Quinn.
