In the sixth episode of the L&D Go Beyond Podcast, Amit Garg chats with Jennifer Tsang, who is the Chief of Staff at Cisco. Jennifer has been in Cisco for over 20 years and is passionate about enabling people to realize their leadership potential.
Being naturally curious, she is a firm believer in finding the root cause of the problem and then finding a learning solution for that, rather than waiting for people to come in and then throw some training at them as a solution. A go-getter from the beginning, she is also a believer in getting started with finding solutions and demonstrating to the seniors how a particular approach would work, rather than keep waiting for someone to approve the effort. In other words, she likes being proactive rather than reactive.
Some key points that Jennifer makes in the podcast:
- L&D should focus on competencies and ‘journey to proficiency’ for different roles.
- Line managers are pivotal to understand the roles and support adoption.
- People ‘don’t have time’ for training but if it’s impactful & helps them solve their challenges, they will make time.
Anything more would be a spoiler here, so do watch this podcast for fascinating insights about solving the right problems in L&D.
