In the third episode of the L&D Go Beyond podcast, we have Keith Keating, Global Learning Strategist at GP Strategies, as our special guest. Keith has been in the L&D industry for over two decades and is a strong proponent of ‘Design Thinking’.
In the conversation, Keith passionately talks about learning engagement and how is it influenced by motivation and inspiration, which in turn are dependent on culture. Keith places learner participation at a very high pedestal in the whole learning engagement process and maintains that the quality of learner participation in the training or the learning experience is really what learning engagement is all about. He emphasizes that rather than being mere order-takers, even the learners need to (and need to be allowed to) participate and advise in creating learning that addresses their pain points.
Keith also shares some great examples from his tenure at General Motors including how design thinking helped them ask the right questions paving the path for continuous improvement within the L&D team.
Keith has some great advice for learning leaders and learning designers in terms of prototyping faster and being wary of ‘too much’ engagement.
